I don’t know about you but I needed a vacation – a serious vacation.
I felt like I had just run a marathon of cooking and cleaning, followed by more cooking and cleaning, with the same cycle just repeating itself for four weeks without end. By the time the kids went back to school, my husband resumed his daily work schedule and I did, as well, I realized that I needed to rejuvenate myself or I would end up collapsing from exhaustion and I kid you not.
With one quick call, I was already feeling the energy beginning to flow back into my body and soul.
To whom did I reach out, you ask? That’s easy – I called Florida Kosher Villas and they arranged a quick getaway for me and my husband in no time at all.
The best part of it was that I did not have to lift a finger nor enter a kitchen from the time I left my home until I came back to it.
Florida Kosher Villas has properties all over the country but my interests laid in Sunny South Florida, as I pictured myself lounging on a chair from sunrise to sunset near my own private pool. Plus I wanted to be served, night and day. I mean, if I was in need of a break, that meant taking a break from everything that falls under the category of “responsibility”…And that is just what I did – for four whole days.
The staff at FKV was amazing and helped us decide which villa would best suit our needs, plus we had our choices of nearly 45 restaurants within a 10-mile radius of our front door.
My husband loves his steak and so we made sure to dine at Harbour Grill on Harding Avenue in Surfside our very first night where, no matter what time of year you go, the food is simply “perfection.” The steak is done just right, those side dishes are tasty and fresh, and the staff is extremely solicitous and truly wants to please. I had the sea bass and was practically swooning at the tenderness of the fish, along with the side of sautéed vegetables done “al dente” just as I love them.
An early lunch the second day was eaten at Fresko in Aventura where we started out by sharing a scrumptious carrot soup. My husband chose the veggie burger with roasted peppers, a nice-sized portion, just right for the man of the house, with a side of well-done fries. I loved the goat cheese salad with caramelized pecans and a honey dijon dressing. For dessert we split the dulce de leche cheesecake – simply DIVINE – and had delicious cappuccinos to go along.
That night we were not too hungry but we decided we were here so we might as well go for it! We popped into Fuego in the Waterways Shoppes and shared these amazing house battered onion rings and out-of-this-world chicken poppers along with a chipotle rub chicken breast sandwich that was served with caramelized onions. (Are you following me here?)
In between the constant gastronomic indulgences we took turns swimming in the pool and soaking in the Jacuzzi that was “part of the package” that came with the house. Pity we did not use the kitchen except for coffee in the morning, as it was a chef’s dream. The house, too, was gorgeous. The linens were hotel-quality, the towels were plush, and best of all, the place was sparkling clean. If I was going away I did not want to see a dust-mite within 5 miles of my eyes, and as they assured me when I made the reservation, the house was every bit as beautiful as they had promised.
At one point we realized we could take “laziness” to a whole new level by not having to leave the pool area at all and we started “uber-eat”ing our meals – it was amazing! We had the most amazing steaks and crispy schnitzel with salads and fries delivered from Pita Hut located on West Dixie Highway in North Miami Beach, a real “Israeli style” authentic steakhouse, a phenomenal breakfast from Holy Bagel right here on Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami Beach (try the tuna melt areppa, you will never know it’s gluten free!), and I could go on and on.
The weather was picture perfect, we ate and swam and although we chose not to, the staff at Florida Kosher Villas prepared a “local sites” book for us that listed about twenty local attractions to visit.
Anything we wanted was handled by their concierge team – they had a driver waiting for us at the airport, they arranged a massage in-house for me on two of the afternoons, and since we were too lazy to pick up some basic nosh and drinks that we thought we could use, they handled that, too.. .it was really dreamy to be taken care of and be able to build my strength back to where it needed to be.
Now I am back home and feeling more like myself…but I have a funny feeling that in about eight weeks from now, I am going to “need” another rejuvenating getaway.
I know just who to call and you never know… maybe next time I’ll even bring along the kids!
